Project Description

The goal of the 15th annual Design On A Dime fundraising event by Housing Works is to raise money to provide healthcare, battle homelessness, and much more to those living with HIV and AIDS in New York. Every year, designers come together to create amazing shoppable vignettes for ticket buyers to buy donated merchandise at discounted prices towards these fundraising efforts. How is this possible? Through the generous donations of vendors.

The concept of my vignette was Cultural Oasis, a room with various cultural influences and relatively eclectic. I also wanted to have a heavy Black influence, which is seen in my art selections, and really unique and unexpected pieces.

Highlights of what we did:

  • Create an art installation using light the Ndebele Necklace Pendant from 54kibo and 10 Voodoo Pendants from Currey & Company.
  • Use a color palette of jewel tones accentuating blue, pink, green, and yellow.
  • Give a feel of luxuriousness by accentuating brass and gold accents.
  • Be bold on color on the walls and in the art.
  • Use unique, unforgettable pieces so the room becomes a conversation.
