Project Description

I had the pleasure of co-designing and co-curating one of the Transcend spaces for the Summer 2019 NY NOW show with Kiyonda Powell, representing the Black Artists + Designers Guild. Our goal was to create an experience that was unapologetically Black in its influences, detailed, modern, soulful, and beautiful. Our concept was The Love Letter:

Creativity comes in many forms. It’s music to your ears, a feast for the eyes , the pleasant sensation of shivers to your soul. Essentially, it’s an address to your consciousness through stories by artists, makers, and designers in many disciplines. It is also love.

This is a love letter to the Black creative. Your talent inspires us as we experience all of you in each piece: the influences and sacrifices embodied in the colors, words, sounds, and textures. We are honored to be with you in this work; feeling the dedication, experiencing its growth, and cultivating its beauty. As colleagues and comrades, we applaud you while standing alongside you in love and light.
