The goal of the formal living room was to create an eclectic living space made for cocktails and conversation, filled with color, texture, art, beautiful details, and (of course) a bar. After falling in love with the living room, the client wanted to update a guest bedroom and address the art throughout the new home with a focus on family. That family focus led to an amazing gallery wall off of the foyer. And by addressing all of the art in the home I was able to create a mix of DIY, custom framed, and original art to start.
Highlights of what we did:
- Retile the fireplace surround and hearth with a graphic mosaic tile.
- Strategically paint the wainscot a deep purple and a shade of white on the walls and fireplace mantle. The juxtaposition of color set the tone for the space.
- Custom pillows were created for the sofa using African wax prints, and the cane back chairs cushions were reupholstered in oxblood-colored leather and African wax print.
- Carefully curated art selections were made including the large, eclectic canvas over the mantle; reframing a watercolor done by Romare Bearden with a large mat and museum glass; DIY-framing vintage music sheets; and placing mud cloth between sheets of acrylic was a lengthy DIY-process.

“Our experience with Beth was nothing short of amazing! From our first consultation all the way to the final step of the installation, Beth was a pleasure to work with in bringing our joint vision for our home to life. We shared what we wanted to achieve and how we wanted to feel in our home, and she presented us with several options that reflected our ideas, but took them to a totally new level that we would not have been able to achieve on our own. Beth is creative, innovative, resourceful and an overall joy to work with; and her passion and unique style shine through in every thing she touches. Thank you Beth for transforming our home design and décor beyond our expectations into something totally stunning!”
